| Part of Charles Deering’s former residence and the small building that had been painter Ramón Casas’ residence make up the Maricel Museum. In 1970, Doctor Jesús Pérez Rosales donated his art collection to Sitges, and it includes works from very wide-ranging artistic styles and periods: Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance, as well as an excellent exhibit of modern Catalan sculpture with marble ones by Joan Rebull (Dawn, Repose and Gypsy) and by Josep Llimona (Despair), plus paintings on canvas by Josep M. Sert. The Municipal Art Gallery presents a collection of paintings by artists united to Sitges, from Romanticism and up to the 20th century. There are works by the main artists from the Luminist school: Joan Roig i Soler, Arcadi Mas i Fontdevila, Joaquim de Miró, Antoni Almirall and Felip Masó i de Falp. Modernism is represented through the works decorating the old Cau Ferrat beer bar, which no longer exists today, built with the participation of Miquel Utrillo, Santiago Rusiñol, Arcadi Mas i Fondevila and Joaquim de Miró. Here we can see a portrait of Charles Deering painted by Ramon Casas. Joaquim Sunyer’s work illustrates noucentisme (a Catalan post art-nouveau style) and painters Pere Pruna, Artur Carbonell, Alfred Sisquella or Agustí Ferrer Pino exhibit the 20th century’s spirit of renewal. The Museum also houses a maritime collection belonging to Emerencià Roig, an expert in Catalan fishing and seamen and historian from Sitges, where he was born in 1881. Throughout his lifetime he gathered an important collection of nautical instruments, fishing arts, boat models and drawing he made while compiling information for his studies. In 1935, the year of his death, the collection was loaned to the Sitges Town Council. MARICEL Consorci del Patrimoni de Sitges Fonollar, s/n Tel. + 34 93 894 03 64
