Can Llopis Romantic Museum |

Can Llopis is a neoclassic-style building, with a very sober exterior decoration. In 1793, a member of one of Sitges’ most traditional families, Josep Bonaventura Falç, built a new home outside the ramparts. Soon afterwards, the Falçs became related through marriage to another Sitges family, the Llopis’s, and the house was then given its present name. Can Llopis was witness to Sitges’ 19th century history. A century full of social, economic and cultural changes and technical innovations. Bernardí Llopis i Pujol, born in 1822, was a paradigmatic representative of this splendor. He promoted the family’s malmsey-making industry, a characteristic Sitges sweet wine that is only cultivated today in the Hospital’s vineyards, a Llopis family donation. In 1935, the house was loaned to public institutions and in 1949 it was opened as a Romantic museum. It is an excellent opportunity to see how people lived during the passage from the 18th to the 19th century. Its interior decorations highlight just how much attention the Romantics paid to every detail and every corner of their homes. On display at the Museum there is also an antique doll collection belonging to artist-writer Lola Anglada (1892-1984) containing 400 pieces from different countries and eras. (17th – 19th century). | | CAN LLOPIS Sant Gaudenci, 1 Tel. +34 93 894 29 69
